Dorchester Apartments
Dorchester is a large neighborhood of Boston located directly south of Downtown Boston and Chinatown. Dorchester is considered south of Bostons 'South End' which is a newer and upcoming region of the city. Typically when someone referes to 'Southie' or 'South Boston' (not to be confused with the 'South End') they mean Dorchester and occasionaly Roxbury.
Dorchester residents benefit from lower rent prices in the Boston area, and easy city access via the subway train. Many times undergraduate students will rent in the area and commute to their college or university.
Nearby Colleges & Universities
Dorchesters most widely known univeristy, is the University of Massachusetts at Boston, also known as 'Umass Boston'. Umass is located on the red line at the Umass/JFK Library stop.
Subway Access
There are two red line trains that run through Dorchester, both of which converge at the Umass Boston/JFK subway stop. The Ashmont train, and the Braintree train both run through Dorchester.
Apartment Rates & Pricing
Rental prices in Dorchester are similar to Roxbury. Rents run lower than other areas surrounding prices, although more recently they've been rising due to increased development and maintenance in the area. One bedrooms in Dorchester start at $1200 and go up to approximately $1400, and two bedrooms range from $1400-$1800. Often times good deals can be found in areas that are up and coming from increased development.
