East Boston Apartments

East Boston is an area of Boston located a twenty minute drive north east of Downtown Boston. Residents of East Boston often find the local residents to be an eclectic group which provides for many different styles of dining options. East Boston is in Suffolk County, near Revere and Winthrop and has about 40,000 year round residents. There are no major colleges or universities in East Boston, although the area is home to numerous students that take the subway to colleges in other parts of Boston such as Umass Boston, Suffolk University, Boston University and Emerson College.

Subway Access

East Boston is often considered a commuter residence because it is located on the Blue Subway Line only 20 minutes from Government Center (Downtown). Subway access to East Boston varies of course depending on which part of the region you live. The two more popular train stops are "Maverick" and "Wood Island". Sometimes subway takers estimate the area to be only 10-15 minutes away when in reality it's about 30-35 minutes considering the time it takes to get to the train, waiting for the train and then the actual trip. Driving though, is only about 20 minutes during non-rush hour times.

Apartment Rates & Pricing

Apartment prices in East Boston are significantly less than near Downtown Boston primarily since city access isn't as convenient as living north of the city in Cambridge, or slightly west in Brookline. Prices for studios in East Boston range from $700-$900/month, 1 Bedrooms run approximately $1000-1200 and 2 Bedrooms can be found for $1500+. Before moving into the area, it's important that apartment seekers learn about the subway access and how long commutes actually take. It's a good rule to add 20 minutes to any trip for planning.
