Jamaica Plain ApartmentsJamaica Plain (JP) is a rapidly expanding area of Boston that is most commonly considered to be the home of undergraduate and graduate college students, as well as younger professionals. The areas reputation has improved considerably over the past 5 years, and is now home to many popular sports bars and trendy coffee shops and cafes. Many college students live in Allston & Brighton, but Jamaica Plain is expanding quickly, and rent is often less expensive. The area is a cool and has a lot to offer. Don't take it from us though, try a drink at Alchemist Bar and Grill in JP on a Red Sox game night and you'll realize what a blast the area truly can be. Nearby Colleges & UniversitiesNortheastern University can be found on the Orange Line at the Ruggles Station which is only a few stops from JP. The Orange Line also goes direct to Tufts Medical Center, and near other colleges such as Wentworth College, Emerson College, and Suffolk University. Subway AccessThe Orange Line Subway in Boston runs directly through the center of Jamaica Plain, and combined with a solid network of public busses, you shouldn't have any troubles getting around. Subway fares run $2 each, or monthly passes can be purchased for $60. We always suggest purchasing monthly passes for a few reasons. First and formost it saves a boat load of money by the end of the month, especially if you don't have a car and need to travel into the city a lot. Second, monthly passes save time since you won't need to purchase a ticket or 'add value' to your Charlie Card. Living in the city is a fast paced environment and it's a real hassle to travel stop every trip to buy tickets. Apartment Rates & Pricing Apartments in JP are significantly less expensive than living in the city or immediate surrounding areas. A one bedroom in the city will go for $1500, where in JP they can be found for $1000. Two bedrooms run for approximately $1400-1600. Students that really want to save money each month should live in a 3-5 bedroom apartment with a few other friends. It's not unheard of to find a 5 bedroom for $2500, or only $500 per person. That's a great deal when your a student and money is tight!
