Dana Farber Cancer Institute, The Childrens Hospital, Harvard School of Public Health, and Longwood Trauma Center are in the area just to name a few. Longwood has excellent access to subways (which go to the rest of the city) restaurants, Fenway Park, and a large variety of apartment complexes in the area. Longwood Avenue is considered an upscale area due to its proximity to Brookline. The streets are kept very clean, buildings are maintained, and property taxes are fairly high which means the region itself is always being updated and kept under watch by public officials. Subway AccessLongwood Medical Area is located on the Green Line of the Subway MBTA. Trains run every 10-20 minutes depending on the hour of the day. Passengers can either pay a one time monthly fee to urchase an unlimited monthly pass, or purchase per ticket which is expensive but convenient when seldom traveling. Finding ApartmentsFinding an apartment in Longwood Medical Area is not a challenge unless you're unsure of your personal preferences. Before going on this wild goose chase, be sure to know what you want. Consider things such as proximity to grocery stores, laundry facilities, where your work (employment) will be relative to your potential housing, and what sorts of people you'd like to surround yourself with. Keep in mind, higher price doesn't necessarily mean higher quality. In fact, many excellent deals can be found with a little planning. Never jump into a lease contract without speaking with a professional that knows the area. Rent generally run around $1100 for studios, $1400 for a 1 Bedroom, and $1700 for a 2 Bedroom. Parking is usually separate from rent and can be up to $250 extra per spot per month. Always speak with your employer first to find out if a parking space is included. If you think parking will be an issue, then consider using the subway train, which is a less expensive and popular method for traveling the Boston area.
