Mission Hill Apartments
Mission hill is an area of Roxbury located southwest of metro Boston. Mission hill is an actual hill that has the steepest incline south of the city. It's located at the very tip of the Heath Street "E" Line on the Green subway line and is home predominantly to students that attend college at Northeaster, Wentworth, or Roxbury Community College. Mission Hill is located near Brigham Circle, a popular hang out area for college students and young professionals in the city. Located nearby are Mission Bar & Grill, Penguin Pizza, and Flamers which is a Jamaican Style restaurant.
In the 1990's and earlier, Mission Hill was not considered a very safe place until more recently as it's become more developed and student populations began to move into the area. For more detailed information on crime in the area, renters are encouraged to contact the local police and communicate with their local college and university officials.
Subway Access
Mission Hill has one subway train that offers a high level of convenience to commuters. The E Subway Train on the Green line travels about every 10-15 minutes to Mission Hill, and it takes only about 20 minutes to get into the city.
Fares for the subway run $2 per trip, or travelers can purchase a monthly pass for only $60 per month which is a huge value (and highly suggested) if the subway will be your main source for travel. Purchasing passes on a daily basis also consumes more time to actually purchase the pass and you must ensure that you continuously have cash on hand, which isn't suggested when traveling the city on a regular basis.
Apartment Rates & Pricing
Mission Hill is popular due to its low rental prices. Many students in the area bunk up with 3-4 other roommates and spend about $500-600 a head. One bedrooms in the area rent for $1,200-1,400, and two bedrooms rent for $1600-1700.
As always, we suggest that renters search options early in the year to find the best deals. While there are always some good deals through-out the year, early renters benefit from multiple options in different prices and locations if they get a jump start on their apartment search.
