Roxbury Apartments
Roxbury is a neighborhood of Boston located southwest of downtown Boston. Roxbury was established in 1630 as part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and has grown to have more than 20 neighborhoods. According to the 2000 Government Census, Roxbury is still a majority African American COmmunity, with less than 5% non-hispanic white, 1% Asian American, and 24% Hispanic or Latino. Recently, Roxbury has been aggressively developed due to the consistant demand for housing in Boston, and the lack of maintainance on properties through the 90's.
Roxbury and West Roxbury shouldn't be confused when considering home or apartment values. West Roxbury is a more developed suburban setting that has higher property values and is generally more exclusive than Roxbury. West Roxbury grants less access to the city due there being no subway line in the area, but this has made the area more desirable for commuters with cars.
Subway Access
The Orange line runs directly through the center of Roxbury. There are 4 widely used stops in the area that city commuters can use, all of which accept monthly and weekly subway passes. Trains generally run every 10-15 minutes. Each stop also provides additional bus services that commuters can use to reach areas not on the subway stop. Roxbury apartments are priced significantly lower than the metro area of Boston. 1 Bedrooms can be found for as low as $1,000-1,200, and two bedrooms can be found for as low as $1,400.
