Umass Boston ApartmentsThe University of Massachusetts at Boston (also known as Umass Boston) is a publicly funded school located barelly south of Boston. Umass is located on the shores of Dorchester, and has magnificent views overlooking Dorchester Harbor. Unfortunately for students, housing is not available on campus, so students are required to search out their own living situation. But on a positive note, this crease an enormous opportunity to experience Boston to it's fullest by living in different neighborhoods and making friends through out the city. Due to the lack of on campus housing, Umass Boston is considered a commuter campus, and because of this it attracts many professional working students that can take day or night courses while they're working a full time job. Umass Boston has a very diverse student body of all ages and ethnicities. Other Nearby Colleges & Universities While Umass Boston isn't immediately located near any other universities, Boston is loaded with other colleges. Most other schools in Boston area located within a 10 minute drive, or a 30 minute commute from Umass Bostons campus. Subway Access Umass Boston has it's own train stop on the Red Line. The stop is called the 'Umass/JFK Library Station'. The JFK Library is located about a 10 minute walk from the front steps of Umass, so the engineers of the subway system decided to creatively bunch the two facilities into one name. The subway travels about every 10-15 minutes and takes about 20 minutes to get to downtown Boston. Fares cost $2 per trip, or $60 per monthly pass. It's highly advised to purchase monthly passes and will save travelers a lot of money in the long run. Apartment Rates & Pricing Apartment prices through-out Boston range greatly according to the area it's located and the amenities offered at the specific property. In the area of Dorchester where Umass is located, rents are low due to low property values and a higher crime rate than other areas of Boston.
