West Roxbury Apartments
West roxbury is a quiet and sizeable town west of Boston and partially surrounding Jamaica Plain. Although commonly misunderstood to newcomers, it's very different from Roxbury in that property values are much higher, crime rates are lower, and the education system is considerably better with higher graduation rates. West Roxbury is known to be a clean and classy area, and the public education system is of superior class for New England.
Subway Access
One pitfall to living in West Roxbury is the lack of subway access. Commuters that need a subway for day to day trips into the city will either need to rely on the local MBTA bus, find another mode of transportation, or choose a different area to live in altogether. Bus trips aren't as convenient as taking the train, but when transit options are limited, it may be worth your while considering the lower rent in the area.
Apartments Rates & Pricing
Since West Roxbury isn't located on any major subway routes, and since it's a decent drive into the city, prices are fairly low. Although generally the area has regular residential homes for sale,, there are apartments for for rent especially by independent landlords and small property management companies in the area. Compared to other areas, such as Brookline or Newton which are located north and west, West Roxbury apartment rents are about 10-20% less. A one bedroom in the area may go for $1100-1300, where in Brookline it's a challenge to find anything below $1400.
