Nearby Colleges & Universities Boston is known primarily for three things: It's universities, it's medical facilities (hospitals & care) and the Boston Red Sox. That being said, Boston has one of the most dense student populations per square mile out of all the cities in the United States. Near Downtown you'll find Suffolk Univeristy, Emerson College, New England College of Law, Tufts University and Berklee College of Music. In addition to these named schools, there are numerous others within only a 15 minute walk in almost any direction. In addition, Boston University, Northeastern University, MIT, Harvard and Boston College can all be reached with only a twenty minute train ride from Downtown. Apartment seekers often find themselves looking at highrises that offer an assortment of social classes, age levels, nationalities and various levels of income. The reason for this of course is due to Bostons high level of diversity and the city being connected to the rest of the world through it's educational and health care offerings. Subway Train Access If you know Boston, than you know about the continuous struggle to find parking and the stress from navigating the streets during high traffic times. Fortunately for newcomers and current residents that don't want the headaches, Boston has a spectacular public transportation system. The Subway, also know as the "T", runs from 5:00am - 12:45am the following day and fares can be paid individually or with weekly or monthly passes. A monthly pass runs $59 per month (flat fee) or $2 per individual trip. Apartment Rates & Pricing Boston apartment rental prices vary so much! The Downtown Area is among the most expensive in the metropolitan areas, but others are also very expensive such as Symphony, Cambridge, Seaport and Beacon Hill. Renters that want to avoid high prices generally move to areas a little less convenient to the immediate downtown area such as Allston, Brighton, Somerville, Quincy, Mission Hill and Roxbury. Prices generally start at $800 for a studio in the lower priced regions, and can run upward of $1600 in the high priced areas.
