Boston University ApartmentsBoston University or "BU" is located on Commonwealth Avenue wedged between Allston and Metro Boston, just south of Cambridge and north of Brookline. Students and faculty that attend BU generally live through-out Brookline, Cambridge, and Allston/Brighton. While living in one of BU's 7,000 on-campus dormatories is benefitial in many ways, it's not always the best option, especially for upper-classmen and students living on a budget. Housing is, believe it or not, much less costly if you find your own place off campus. Nevermind, you can eat what you want since a meal plan isn't mandatory, and you'll have your own room. On campus they jam you into rooms like sardines while charging upward of double market rent. Cost of Living Off-CampusApartments in the nearby area run for about $1100 per month for a studio, or as low as $600 per month per roomate for apartments with 4-5 rooms. In other words, living with multiple roommates is extraordinarily beneficial. An apartment with 4 bedrooms might run for $2,800 per month, and if you divide that among 4 students you're only paying $700/month. Living with 2-4 roommates is an excellent way to meet other students, save money on utilities, and get to know the area with the help of others. Things to ask when looking for a place:1.
What will utilities cost? Where to go for additional questionsProbably the most reliable source of information is your college's Housing Resources Department. Boston University has excellent on campus help that will assist you in finding places to live on or off campus.
