Emerson College is one of the few colleges in Boston dedicated exclusively to communications and the performing arts. It's one of many colleges and universities in the Boston area and is home to approximately 3,400 undergraduate students and 200 academic staff. Students and Staff at Emerson that don't rely on campus facilities for housing must find off-campus options. Fortunately, Boston is an apartment loaded hub that offers numerous public transportation solutions and apartments in all different corners of the city and surrounding areas. Subway Access Emerson is located immediately downtown in Boston along the Boston Common on Tremont Street. Within a 5 minute walk of the college are nearly 6 major subway line train stops on the green line, red line and orange line. Students living outside of the city and commuting in shouldn't find a problem finding access to Emerson from wherever they live. Subway fares run $2 per trip or $59/month depending on the preference of the traveler. We almost always recommend purchasing a monthly pass since frequent travel to work, shopping and entertainment increases costs over time. Boston is known as "the walking city" due to the proximity of everything to downtown Boston which is especially convenient for students that live on campus. For the majority though, living on campus is too expensive which leads us to our explination of apartment searching. Finding Apartments Due to the location of Emerson and the proximity to the city, Emerson students will find living off campus the most affordable option. Living downtown is the most expensive option, where studios can easily run for $1400/month. Fortunately, there are many areas north, west and south of Boston that are much less expensive and affordable with a part time job. Living in areas such as Allston, Brighton, Roxbury, Somerville, or Quincy have a 30 minute commute and prices are considerably less. |
