Massachusetts Institue of Art Apartments

MassArt is a small coeducational school with about 3,000 undergraduate students, and about 200 graduate students. On campus there are 2 co-educational dormatories that offer about 200 apartments per building. Applications can be made online, and a $200 housing deposit is due before registering for classes, this is to ensure you're serious about finding student housing, and to put you're name on the student housing list.

Living on campus requires a meal plan, and bath facilities are separated according to gender. Some dormatory building have kitchens and lounge areas, and some have convenience stores built into the same building complex.

Living Off-Campus

While searching for off campus housing, it's fair to assume that you'll be searching for a place with additional roommates. Doing this will substantially decrease the cost of your personal monthly rent bill. For example, if you rent a room with in an apartment that has 3 other roomates, you can expect to pay about $2,800 per month, or $700 per student.

Aside from lower monthly rent, you'll benefit living off campus by getting to choosing the food that you eat since you won't be restained by a meal plan, and you won't be required to share a room. Often times freshman, sophomores, and middlers are required to share their own room with two or three other people. It's not until their junior or senior year that they have all the luxuries that off-campus housing has to offer.

Things to ask when looking for a place:

1. What will utilities cost?
2. How far is the subway or bus from the apartment?
3. Who else lives in the building? Students? Older people that prefer quiet after 9pm?
4. Is parking included? (if you have a car)
5. What deposits are required up front? First? Last? Save Deposit?

Where to go for additional questions
