Medford is a town five miles north of Boston near Somerville, Everette and Malden. According to statistics from 2009, the town has approximately 56,000 year round residents. Median household incomes in Medford are above the national average, but below the City of Boston median. While the population is highly diverse, Medford is considered a blue-collar town that often provides service people to the City of Boston. Many people commute using the subway transportation system.

Nearby Colleges & Universities

While there are numerous universities in the Boston area, Medford is home to only Tufts University. Tufts University has been an accredited university since it's start in 1852. It currently has about 5,000 undergraduate students and 4,500 graduate students with an academic staff of 1,200. The University is located in a different area than Tufts Medical School, which is located near Downtown Boston on the edge of China Town. The school has an endowment of $1.2 Billion.

Subway Access

Medford is connected to the MBTA subway and bus transportation system which is an added benefit to residents and visitors. Specifically, the Orange Line and the Commuter Rail line (Purple Line) run from north to south. Fares on the MBTA are $2 per trip or $59 per month.
